Learn the same strategies and tools that have helped Vezina, and CHL Goaltender of the Year winning goaltenders!

John Stevenson has worked with NHL, AHL, WHL and  NCAA Goaltenders on and off the ice.

Entry Level

This 2-month program focuses on developing goalies Tactical and Mental Game:

  • Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 20 selected goaltenders
  • Includes four, 90-minute online mental training group sessions with John
  • A subscription to Vizual Edge Training Program

LIMITED TIME INTRODUCTORY OFFER: $500 USD (Total Value: $1,300 USD.)

Goalies in the Entry Level program will work with John Stevenson on the same mental toughness frameworks he used working with Vezina- and Stanley Cup-winning goaltenders, World Junior gold medal winners, and so many more. Learn to maximize training and develop a balanced approach on and off the ice by using the Performance Wheel and the High Performance Equation to properly evaluate your performances.

You will learn the Basics of Anticipation, key concepts to developing situational awareness that allow them to make better depth adjustments, lateral movements and execute proper save selections.

We’ll review the four types of ball drills goalies need daily to develop eye-hand coordination, peripheral vision, puck tracking and decision-making skills. Learn the three mistakes goalies make when practicing these skills and how to avoid them with drills you can incorporate into pre-practice and pre-game routines to build consistency.

Learn off-ice concentration exercises that help develop mental intensity and stamina so they can see, read, and react faster to the play. You can use these exercises in a variety of ways to increase awareness, scanning ability, mental stamina, mental intensity, and their ability to focus and concentrate in the present moment.

Goalies will also get an introduction to the world of breath work and a variety of breathing techniques and when to use each to optimize their well-being and their performance. There will also be an introduction to Mindfulness Meditation that allows goalies to self-regulate their attention and emotions under high-pressure situations.

Intermediate

This 6-month program takes your Mental Game to another level by developing the ability and tools to re-focus, maintain and project poise, understand keys to consistency, and proper mental rehearsal.

  • Enrolment is limited to a maximum of 10 selected goaltenders
  • Includes 12, 90-minute online mental training group sessions with John Stevenson
  • A subscriptions to both Neurotracker and Senaptec online web-based training programs. 
  • Moving beyond, but not abandoning the Entry Level exercises to improve sports vision. 
  • Cognitive-Perceptual training 
  • Improve awareness and decision-making abilities, allowing you to process the game at faster rates, improving your “hockey IQ” to better read both plays and shot releases.

LIMITED TIME INTRODUCTORY OFFER: $2,500 USD ($417 USD/month) (Total Value: $4,100 USD.)

Goalies stepping up to the Intermediate program, will learn strategies and tools to Focus and Re-Focus. You will be systematically guided through a Mindful Sports Performance Enhancement program and learn to create a daily Mindfulness Meditation practice to develop resilience, concentration, sleep quality, confidence, the ability to relax and regulate your emotions more effectively and handle negative feelings and thoughts, pre-competition stress, task-related worries, task-irrelevant thoughts and things outside of their control. Learn the 3 P’s of great focus and delve deeper into advanced techniques to anchor yourself in the present and truly play in the moment.

Poise and composure are enhanced by learning how to self-regulate emotions using more advanced breathing techniques scientifically proven to improve performance and well-being. Goalies will develop personalized strategies to quickly let go of goals, mistakes, and upsets that routinely occur during a game; build their own Mistake Ritual based on 3 A’s of Mindfulness (Awareness, Acceptance, Action) and the 3 R’s of Proper Focus (Recognize, Regroup, Refocus); and learn the Mindful skill of Self-Compassion and Self-kindness to better handle tough moments on and off the ice and bounce back sooner and more efficiently.

Maximize confidence and consistency by developing a systematic way to evaluate performance after a game, as well as understanding the key ingredients of an effective pre-practice and pre-game routine to optimize your “hype number” and various lifestyle factors (sleep, nutrition, and hydration) that also play a key role.

Understand why John uses the term “Mental Rehearsal” instead of “Visualization” and learn the key components necessary to use this technique to facilitate faster technical-skill development and the ability to anticipate the play more effectively, including guided audio tracks to help develop and hone these skills at home.

Elite

This year-long, limited-admission program mirrors the work of pro clients right up to the NHL and is designed only for goalies who are serious about taking their Mental game to an elite-level, including a willingness to commit to daily mental exercises and important lifestyle factors including sleep, nutrition and limiting electronic use.

  • Enrolment is limited to a maximum of six selected goaltenders.
  • Entry is not guaranteed: John Stevenson will conduct one-on-one interviews with suitable candidates.
  • Includes 24, 60-minute private training sessions with John Stevenson, specified to each goalie’s specific needs, and scheduled at the goaltender’s discretion, ideally twice a month.
  • Includes game analysis, using video to tie mental training into on-ice specifics.
  • Includes 1-year subscriptions to all 3 vision and cognitive perceptual training tools: Vizual EdgeNeurotracker and Senaptec, as well as the Senaptec Strobe Glasses.

Goalies in the elite program will work directly with John in a 1-on-1 training environment to incorporates to develop their tactical and mental game, including detailed video analysis of 10 games. Using game film not only helps goalies further develop situational awareness skills, and how they read opponents, but also enhances their own self-awareness and how it ties into, and can be used to improve their mental rehearsal practices.

Learn to identify critical game performance areas like angles, positioning, rebound control, recovery speed, save selections, ability to read and react to various situations and apply preparation advice to future games, including drills on and off the ice to address any concerns and build upon strengths. John will also provide opportunity to learn from the best by breaking down game film of NHL goalies and how they see the game in regards to save selections, depth adjustments, reading releases, and using specific cues to anticipate plays.

Each session emphasizes learning, engaging, and practicing core mindfulness skills in ways that maximize their integration into practice, competition, and daily life. Build daily Mindfulness, Mental Rehearsal and Breathwork practice, and learn to manage this “mental gym” every day to improve not just performance on the ice by mastering the 7 Cs of mental toughness, but overall happiness, grit, and joy in their personal lives as well.

At the end of the day, I believe my job as a Goaltending Coach and Mental Performance Consultant is to empower each client with tools they will use for their entire lives. The program is designed to teach my students regardless of their age and/or level so that they can become self-reliant and mentally-resilient, which in turn, would allow them to self-regulate themselves to be happy, healthy and strong.
